Disability Income Insurance

Disability income insurance is an invaluable tool to provide income when an insured becomes disabled. To help defray the costs that result from becoming disabled, many different types of disability insurance are available, as well as government programs. The information in this course will help you to educate your clients on the features of these various types of disability insurance and programs. Specifically, this course analyzes individual disability insurance, employer-provided disability insurance, government programs that pay disability benefits, and the taxes insureds can expect to pay on these benefits. Also provided in the course is a discussion of the disability-related expenses these programs do not cover. The specific learning objectives for this course are for you to be able to
  • explain and understand the different types of disability insurance many employers provide;
  • understand how policies differentiate among the various types of disabilities;
  • to learn how to determine the right amount and the right type of individual disability insurance for an insured;
  • know the defining attributes of association, mortgage, credit, and AD&D disability insurance;
  • identify the programs offered under Social Security that pay disability benefits;
  • list the disability benefits of Workers’ Compensation ;
  • distinguish among other government programs that offer disability benefits; to know the types of disabilities that qualify a person to receive benefits under these programs; and
  • know what aspects of certain disability insurance are taxable.
